Funny thing about California summers: they are an awful lot like late fall in North Carolina. Days can be bright and brisk or damp, foggy, and cold. Friday, August 13th (true to its nature) was the latter weather conditions. When I asked Chris and Barbara if we needed hoodies for the day’s expedition, they replied simultaneously, “Always.” Thank goodness for the wisdom of the locals.
Chris and Barbara took us on a safari cruise of the Elkhorn Slough National Estuary. We all got an eyeful of native birds, mammals, sea creatures, and one extremely weird worm.

Listen carefully.
California Sea Lions are the frat bros of marine life.

They can’t believe they’re related.
Afterwards, we went to the famous Phil’s Fish Market & Eatery for lunch. The clam chowder was so hearty, rich, and delicious that even the spoons stood up for it. Tip o’the hat to the chef!
A wee bit of local shopping after lunch, and then we headed back to Chris and Barbara’s.

Salt air. Stiff breeze. Photo bombs. Swing spinning. A good agenda for a terrific day. Thank you, Barbara and Chris.
